On a quiet midweek evening, we found ourselves comfortably nestled in the uncomplicated yet amiable embrace of Jin Go Gae, this enduring beacon of Korean delight tucked away in New Malden, an area affectionately known for its vibrant Korean community. A place that seems to have steadfastly maintained its air of homely charm over the years; nothing flashy - just bombastically down-to-earth and comfortingly familiar, like slipping into an old, well-worn sweater. The restaurant was modestly busy, with animated clusters of guests reminding me of the place’s pulling power among locals, particularly for those longing for a genuine taste of home far from home. It’s a scene I've grown fondly accustomed to in previous sigukopen adventures across the capital.

What you find here is little bustling drama on the tables: hearty portions of Korean BBQ sizzling over charcoal, served with a heartful of authentic side dishes, all highly seasoned between tradition and innovation. Our choice to dive into their famed Galbitang was indeed graciously rewarded—a sculpted hot bowl overflowing with clear, soul-soothing broth neatly encasing generous cuts of beef short ribs. Equally delightful was the gooey Tteokbokki, though I fancy they could hold onto the onions just a smidgeon longer to rebalance that loud assembly of flavours. Service oscillated between attentively knowledgeable and comfortably leisurely, ensuring both cohesion in service and lavishing dishes arrived briskly amidst the bustling hum of this remarkable venue.
