Sunday Roast Perfection with Friendly Staff

Venturing into Delicio, located on the bustling Eltham high street, one might be quick to scribble something akin to Dante’s descent through Hades after reading a few particularly scathing remarks online. But I, driven by either morbid curiosity or sheer optimism, found myself walking through its doors, and quite surprisingly, into what was a rather dichotomous culinary experience.

Let's start with the positives – the food, when done right, tips the scale towards delightful. Their lamb shish was cooked to perfection, deserving every syllable of that clichéd phrase, while my friend couldn't stop raving about what they swore was “the best coffee I’ve ever had.” John, one of the waiters, not only knew his beans but also injected a lively sincerity into our interactions. The alfresco setup offered an excellent perch for some recreational people-watching, providing friendly vibes with seasoned weather allowing. However, like a novel with just enough plot holes to irritate purists, Delicio comes undone, or perhaps overcooked, in parts. The overly brisk service lends itself to feeling rushed, as plates disappear almost as swiftly as they arrive, leaving guests clinging possessively to their glasses before the predatory advance of staff. Prices are a mixed bag too, inviting scrutiny over items like the overcharged burger. Quaint and promising? Yes. Perfect? Not quite. But cut them some slack, order away carefully, and see if it won't charm your socks off—John might just help with that. — Milo Tastemaker
