About this place
Superb Rooftop Vibes and Delightful Dining
It’s not every day you find yourself whisked up to the gastronomic heights of the fourth floor via a dubious lift escapade, but such was my recent adventure leading to a serendipitous encounter with Upstairs Brixton. This clandestine oasis comes complete with a rather fabulous roof terrace that seems more in league with Tarzan than City folks, offering sweeping views and perfectly potent cocktails that deliver a swift uppercut to the dreariness of the everyday. A venue where the décor whispers elegance and the city’s sprawling skyline frames your dinner, it’s as if someone wedged a gourmet retreat atop a building just for kicks. Although I was there sans toddler, said contingent reportedly found this aerie a playground of indulgence rather than merely parental sustenance.Stepping beyond the hefty ironwork door, one is greeted warmly by staff who showcase a delightful choreography between attentive service and seamless nonchalance. Nowhere is the charm more apparent, however, than when you encounter their culinary offerings: a selection of dishes that flirt outrageously with perfection amid an encouraging dining-room hum. I lingered over flavors, thought particularly sinful in the array of tasty tidbits vying for my attention. Set up camp by the broad windows, where the food is as fetching as the view, and perhaps during your soirée, the Brixton Chamber Orchestra might obligingly stitch a soundtrack to your meal. Just be sure you've deciphered Brixton's enigmatic parking puzzle before you arrive—the only true downside to this airborne bliss. I’m already scrutinizing my diary for a summer return when balcony-doting yet awaits. — Penelope Savory
