On my latest jaunt to what I can only describe as an urban oasis nestled inconspicuously beneath the shadows of Blackfriars Bridge, I found a place that seemed at first to be nothing more than a run-of-the-mill train station café. Yet, as I sidled in, it unfolded into a lively enclave rich with aroma and palpable charm. The allure of its location—by the river no less—immediately cultivated an atmosphere one could happily sink into along with their too-hot Americano (once it’s cooled, naturally). The coffee here is something of a split affair: ranging from stupendous iced filters that yet dare you to demand more ice, to flabbergastingly bland lattes. It baffles that they'd serve such mediocrity right alongside brag-worthy croissants.

The staff, however, remains unfalteringly delightful, offering friendly smiles as generous as the tunes that dance through the air. They're the warm beating heart of this bustling spot, although occasional sulks might slip through like an unexpected drizzle on an otherwise sunny afternoon. If patience prevails your latte helpings, liberally softening those foam-flecked slips in customer service, there’re rewards in couplets of chewy almond joy dressed as croissants, making up for the odd spillage or forgetful pour. Vegetarian selections parry robust claims to satisfy most dietary requirements, while their melange of crafted concoctions runs from undeniably peculiar to blissfully creative.
