About this place
Vibrant Atmosphere and Top-Notch Cocktails
Recently, I graced the vibrant and hearty space of Queen of the South—a place that has as many quirks as it does cocktails. Nestled conveniently along a bustling street near Tulse Hill station, this gem boasts a sprawling mural behind the bar which sets the tone for an evening filled with excellent mood lighting and cozy nooks perfect for intimate conversations. The bar offerings dazzled more than the menu: a creative concoction or two masterminded by characters like Derrick and Aldo. These bartenders not only showed remarkable zeal but also infused the air with infectious energy alongside some choice musical beats—the kind that you can feel set your foot tapping instinctively. The food, however, inspired rather mixed feelings. While the jerk chicken managed to thrill with its juicy embrace of spices, other entrees like the oxtail and curry goat regrettably underdelivered, falling flat and hitting lukewarm notes. Fortunately, the staff mostly made up for culinary shortcomings with their charm and attentiveness (special thanks due to Elizabeth and Kay for being consummate hosts). Despite intermittent lapses, hiccups were generously overshadowed by stellar service from staff members such as the effortlessly efficient Savannah and the exuberant glow of proverbial 'red-haired girl.' Taken together, Queen of the South offers an eclectic experience: the shine is in its tantalizing drinks, responsive service, and consistently captivating atmosphere—just what one needs for a dynamic evening out in South London. Fans of engaging nightlife and great company are bound to find a place here amid modulating music and sparkling ambiance. — Milo Tastemaker
