Nestled in a quaint corner of Clerkenwell, The Sekforde exudes old-world charm with its beautifully preserved Georgian facade and beckons those seeking solace from the city's bustle. As I strolled in, it was the welcoming glimpse of a warm fire and the gentle hubbub of conversation that immediately set the scene for what promised to be a charming evening. Mingling scents of hearty British fare wafted through the air, led by the seductive allure of an excellent Sunday roast that has earned many applauds as perhaps one of London's best. I promptly sank into the tattered leather of a cozy corner banquette, quite fittingly equipped with a pint of Purity IPA, allowing the gentle clink of glasses and low chatter to fill the comfortable silence.

The service at The Sekforde straddles the line between endearingly sincere and delightfully no-fuss. While there were moments where staff were perhaps overly engrossed in their own tales, the general genuineness shone through when it counted. The food doesn’t try too hard, yet inexplicably provides just what is needed—traditional and untouched by the flare that misleads many of today's haunts. Of particular note was the distinct pleasure of their perfectly sublime fish and chips—a classic revamped in its simply grand form. Not every trip spitefully ends like some others wrestle to impart; this visit bespoke an establishment embracing both its heritage and its patrons in a relaxed homage to all that is inherently, joyfully British.
