About this place
Cozy Atmosphere with Exceptional Service
Ah, The Sun Tavern—what a glimmering bastion of conviviality tucked away in the bustling labyrinth of central London. Stepping through its doors, one is immediately swept into an embrace that's one part heritage pub and one part art deco sanctuary, featuring that rare authenticity so few establishments genuinely possess. An accidental discovery for some, this apparent marvel down an alleyway seems to command devotion from an eclectic crowd of regulars interspersed with curious outsiders. And why not? Drink prices are reasonable, especially compared to other joints in the WC2 orbit, and there's a sort of societal gin distillery fermenting at its very heart. The staff, however, are unquestionably the jewel in The Sun Tavern’s bohemian crown. A parade of friendly faces like Tiernan, Milly, and Vikki navigate their duties with cheerful grace almost as deftly as serving that Guinness worthy of being crowned. The menu hosts its own highs and lows, with praise flowing as freely as the house wine (which rather defeats the purpose if over poured): for hearty steak and ale pies, legends about camembert encrusted in breadcrumbs, and comforting portions of sausage and mash. Yet, beware of burgers drier than an East End philosopher’s witticism, and certain mulled wines might indeed require an investigation from The Trading Standards Institute. Underpinning these culinary dichotomies is a tangible vibrance and ambiance so thick it could be sliced and served as a dish itself. Yes, The Sun Tavern is not without its flaws, but is gloriously proud, unapologetically lively, and has already bought me another drink. Cheers. — Penelope Savory
