In an age where culinary masquerades are dime a dozen, Albertini emerges like an unadorned, aged Chianti—a revelation of sincere flavors on Chalton Street. Amid the clamor and chaos synonymous with London’s culinary stretch between St. Pancras and Euston stations, this unpretentious Italian eatery manages to offer everything from the reassuringly familiar to just-startling-enough permutations that engage without exploding in your face. The menu doesn’t reinvent the Gorgonzola-covered wheel, and why should it? The tagliatelle—silky coils basking in the understated glory of truffles—sang a low, harmonious melody on my palate.

The service, I must mention, is entirely Italian in spirit and function—warm enough to sooth, efficient enough to impress, albeit occasionally guilty of getting their rhetoric tangled in an operatic gusto.
