Exceptional Tapas and Stellar Service Await!

Strolling through the Spanish-inspired enclave that is La Familia, one might be greeted by an inconspicuous entry that belies its past reputation. Once bustling as a local lair, it now seems to linger in the crossroads of enchantment and decline. Upon entering, the aromas from the sizzling prawns and the waft of freshly seared paella set a promising stage. The restaurant's knack for transforming simple, honest ingredients into joyful bites shines brightest in their tapas selection, where golden tortillas feel like comforting hugs and churros accompanied by crème Catalana provide a sweet, nostalgic symphony to close the meal.

The staff here, led by the ever-attentive Isabela, navigated our experience with a gentle rhythm. Her attentiveness stands as a vibrant antidote to some other regrettable elements, such as the occasionally disappointing main courses that lacked verve and imagination, or the unlikely addition of a noticeable damp smell haunting the corners of this culinary theater. However, when dishes land perfectly, like the sizzling gambas pil pil, reminiscent of sun-drenched Andalucían shores, it makes the hold-overs of what once was seem like worthwhile endeavors. Has La Familia retained all of its celebrated virtues? Not entirely, but there remains enough charm and potential to warrant another leisurely visit under kinder reviews. With a little tweaking, elegance may yet again return to its hearth, bringing back the crowds that its storied halls deserve. — Clarissa Cuisinier
