Exceptional Service and Delectable Cuisine!

Perched gracefully amidst the sprawling landscape of The Grove Hotel, The Stables promised a refined culinary escapade — a promise it largely fulfilled, though with gentle prods for improvement. Upon stepping into the expanse that is adeptly curated between rustic chic and modern minimalism, one could easily drift into the comforts crafted by the restaurant’s low-lit warmth. Teetering between renowned reviews extolling their festive menus and others recounting testing experiences, I arrived bracing for an eclectic encounter. Pleased to report, my evening swayed more toward delightful accents than formidable ones.

Commandeering our little corner of bonhomie was the illustrious Lizzi, whose service bore the charm and quick wit seldom found outside Parisian bistros or your nan’s living room on a good day. My companions and I sauntered through dishes bearing evident flair—vibrant vegetarian bites (akin to a breezy summer walk on Clifton arms) and main courses that barraged us with depth, minus the hiccups. Yes, there were occasional specialty glitches — the festive humour dimmed slightly by inquisitive checks on whether we’d deserted our drinking glasses mid-reverie. Yet, against a backdrop of clinking glasses, infant-sold steel clattering, and yonder the discreet giggles, The Stables upheld what it broadly aspires to achieve: marriage between genial service and a seasoned, even-handed kitchen. — Milo Tastemaker
