About this place
Exquisite Cuisine in a Cozy Setting
Upon stepping into Cinder, nestled cozily in the heart of Belsize Park, I was warmly greeted with aromatic notes that reminiscent of za'atar and hints of citrus—invitingly complex, yet deeply familiar. The vibrancy of Mediterranean and Israeli cuisine danced across the menu, offering dishes such as shakshuka and grilled lamb chops that showcased the chef's reputed creativity. As I indulged in the meticulously prepared yet tantalizingly simple aubergine with tahini, it became clear that this establishment dreams beyond borders, both culinary and geographic. The aubergine was as smooth as silk and was harmoniously paired with nutty tahini, a dish striking enough to leave a second craving within moments. It's worth noting, too, the warmth exuded by George, who served our table, enhancing the experience beyond mere sustenance with his genuine recommendations and artfully suggested wine pairings. However, despite the gustatory wonders on offer, the stark reality of the prices quivered as an ever-present echo. Portions, though artistically plated, left one contemplating value—£22 for two delectable morsels of chicken thigh painted a challenging portrait of indulgence over practicality. This paradox breathed tension into an otherwise delightful dining tapestry, whispering tales from tables around us; guests flitted away with untouched appetites and irked expectations. That said, if elegance outweighed frugality, Cinder unfolded as the ideal backdrop for an intimate rendezvous. It charms those who prize flavor married with intimate aesthetics, despite its penchant for allure over abundance. This gem is certainly a polished treasure but best shines for those prepared to exchange a little gold in appreciation of its gourmet craftsmanship. — Nigel Gourmet
