In the bewildering labyrinth of Enfield Town’s culinary offerings, there lies a little Polish food stall that defiantly waves its pierogi flag in your face as you meander past. Upon making my recent foray there, I’m delighted to report that, unlike many a doomed attempt at blending heritage with retail savagery, this gem succeeds. The pierogi—oh, the pierogi!—descended onto the palate like savoury cushions of joy, their delicate stuffing juxtaposed by an undeniably fetching billing stripe of sauces. The lady running the affair is every bit the ambassador, exuding warmth and hospitality with a beaming grin, making it impossible not to leave with your spirits, as well as tummy, lifted.

The glory does not end at dumplings: they also proffer an infamous mix grill platter that radiates smoky elation. Whilst some might carp about the odd generous slathering of oil, it's fair to say that when meat is this dedicatedly seasoned, zest becomes its mojo. Meanwhile, the barbecue chicken ticks boxes primarily reserved for weekend backyard gluttony, with a dose of delightful oddity from the succulent smoked sausage. Salads arrive unbidden but are better for it—a spirited aside in this theatrical feast. Alas, aye, sins regarding absent toilets could be their Achilles heel. Enfield Town’s parking setup might likewise rustle some feathers, but quibbles aside, this Lithuanian love-in truly captures something simple yet profound: effortlessly delicious food that demands a revisit against sensible reasons otherwise. — Penelope Savory
