Delightful Bites & Vintage Treasures Await!

From the first moment I stepped into Aladdin’s on Hazelville Road, I felt as though I’d been transported to a charming curio shop where each item teemed with its own history, awaiting eager eyes. The quaint little cafe cum antique haven isn’t just a place for a bite—it’s an experience. Perusing the warm, wood-paneled collection of vintage treasures, I was almost distracted from ordering. However, it’s impossible not to drift towards the aromas wafting from Gulcan's kitchen, which lured me with promises of homemade delights. Gulcan herself, a beacon of warm hospitality, quietly commands the space, her hands crafting wonders from fresh ingredients. The green lentil soup she served, accompanied by perfectly toasted brown bread, warms you even before tasting; it's this kind of nourishing simplicity that tells stories in flavors. Remarkably affordable at just over twelve pounds for everything Tim and I ordered, the cheerful price only enhances the pleasure of dining here.

As much as the food impresses, it's the spirit of Aladdin’s that beckons return visits. Precariously stacked vintage furniture kisses the low-beamed ceiling, as patrons recline with coffee and cake amidst relics of times gone by. And what cakes they are—all hand-crafted by Gulcan, including a standout vegan cherry chocolate number that stuns with its reduced sugar sweetness. But whether you're there for antiques or almond-milk cappuccino, every corner exudes an unhurried ethos. One visit, perhaps, won’t suffice to fully appreciate all it offers—Nor will a single indulgent slice. Between buzzing neighborhood exchanges and lovely gestures like baking a custom cake within a heartbeat for someone's birthday, Aladdin's embodies a unique blend of community spirit and culinary heart. If your journey through Crouch End permits only a single ticket to flavor town or furniture yard sales, make it this gem. — Clarissa Cuisinier
