Scenic Riverside Dining with Stellar Service
Perched elegantly on the South Bank with a sweeping view of the River Thames, Founders Arms marries the laid-back charm of a classic pub with an iconic location directly across from St. Paul’s Cathedral. During my visit, I was quickly enveloped by the lively atmosphere carried by the confluence of locals and tourists intertwining over aromatic brews and generous plates of traditional English fare. A standout feature is its ample outdoor seating, perfect for taking in the stunning vistas, particularly magnificent as the evening sky tints upon the water’s reflection. Lou-Lou, one of the acclaimed staff members, imbued our experience with warmth and care, ensuring every detail of our meal was thoroughly attended to.Wandering into this bustling riverside retreat at sunset is an act of indulgence—the Fish and Chips, cloaked in a wonderfully crispy batter, summons nostalgic comfort. It’s worth noting that while the starters like chicken wings might need a bit more flavor refinement, the venue shines with thoughtful starters like the crayfish cocktail and rewroks of classics such as sausage and mash, evoking pure culinary satisfaction. On weekends, though expect audible amiability, sometimes making intimate conversations a hard-won feat amidst the welcoming clamor. Nonetheless, Founders Arms manages to counterbalance its minor quirks with an enviable location, attentive service, and honest, heartwarming eats that collectively plot to earn a revisit precisely when London offers its finest panorama. — Nigel Gourmet
