My recent excursion to The Red Lion on Parliament Street proved to be a fascinating journey into London's history, nestled just a stone's throw from Big Ben. This iconic establishment whispers stories of prime ministers and famous figures who once exchanged ideas over its well-polished wooden tables. Stepping inside, one is immediately enveloped by the pub's old-world English charm, with its impressive mirrored wall paneling and cozy corners seemly frozen in time. It's easy to see why it has become a staple visit for both tourists and locals. Despite being abuzz with chatter, we were fortunate enough to secure a reservation upstairs, where a quieter ambiance allowed us to savor more than just the hearty meals on offer.

The menu delightfully echoed the country’s culinary tradition; while my palate wasn't exactly won over by pies, the Scotch Egg expertly adorned with aubergine chutney was a revelation worth multiple accolades. The flavorful fish and chips served crisp and golden was an unabashed winner for me, exhibiting the hallmark of British comfort food reimagined. While pricier due to its historic location—perhaps warning prospective diners to arrive prepared—it stands its ground convincingly with delightful service and an air infused with stories from ages past.
