My recent visit to Haxells, nestled within the iconic Strand Palace Hotel, was an adventure filled with both theatrical flair and moments of quiet satisfaction. Walking into the establishment is akin to entering a West End set, with an ambiance exuding a spectacular blend of Art Deco motifs and contemporary style. The decor offers a comforting embrace that sets the perfect prelude to what awaits your palate. Upon being seated, we were greeted by an exceptionally attentive staff whose warmth could melt even a London drizzle; their collective knack for creating a welcoming atmosphere turned the evening into a small-scale celebration of culinary delight.

The menu displayed an intriguing assortment of dishes that wander comfortably between traditional favorites and modern fusion. My dining partner and I started with the beetroot and goat cheese salad—a delightful medley of earthy beetroots in pleasant tandem with the creamy, tangy elegance of goat cheese—which set a promising tone for the rest of the meal. Our mains were the seabass, crisply perched on a bed of tender greens, and the corn-fed chicken accompanied by garlic mash—all flavorful performances with no need for enharmonic seasoning. Most memorable, however, was the impeccable handling of a potentially crowded theaterland spirit; Haxells stood its ground, countering the hustle with layers of charm under soft amber lights.
