Stunning City Views and Decadent Dining
On a recent evening at Oblix, located on the 32nd floor of The Shard, I found myself awash in an ambiance that was nothing short of awe-inspiring. What could be more delightful than gazing through expansive glass walls to see London twinkling below, landscapes painted in lights as far as the eye can see? It’s a breathtaking spectacle, and yes — there’s a surcharge for those coveted window seats. The culinary offerings stand as tall as the building itself; from the vivid burst of tuna tartare to the disciplined elegance of beef carpaccio, everything on that menu wanted to tell a story. The views and food make quite the pair, fashioning an experience like none other.Service at Oblix appears to provide mixed results. On one hand, some staff members, such as Alvie and Eva, tend to create magical evenings with their attentive care and perfect insights into food and wine pairings. But, contradictions appeared when a rainfall of uninspiring visits came pouring down. Long waits tarnished the sheen off the gilded images people carry of this spot, echoing grumblings from overlooked birthday diners and unfolded apologies. Yet, for every gripe, there lies a gentle acceptance of the extraordinary terrain called 'Oblix time,' where panoramas are synchronized with your savory tides. While not affordable by any stretch, Oblix is a dance upon splendor – sometimes moving with studied grace and at others meandering – but always striving to offer more than just dinner with a view. — Nigel Gourmet
