Exceptional Service in Stunning Museum Setting

A recent lunch at the Great Court Restaurant in the British Museum offered a delightful culinary escape within this iconic setting. Embraced by the spectacular glass-domed atrium, we indulged in a meal that danced a fine balancing act between understated elegance and casual respite for museum goers. Our attention was immediately seized by the exquisitely prepared arancini and ham hock terrine starters. For mains, a standout was the pan-fried wild sea bream with aubergine caponata, which effortlessly embodied seasonal flavors. Despite the mid-afternoon rush, service remained unfalteringly attentive, contributing to the overall experience with a warmth carried by Claudia’s exceptional hospitality.

The Great Court prides itself on more than just its enviable location; it is an unmistakable blend of ambiance, service, and cuisine. The afternoon tea, albeit with an occasional airy dryness in its sandwich offerings, projects charm through sumptuously tender scones and invigorating brews. Clearly, the love for tradition doesn't go unnoticed here, though wrapping such ritual indulgences at £36 per head garners some debate about value versus expectation. Still, the sensation of pausing under the architectural marvel above while savored morsels inscribe their own delightful footnotes into our museum wanderings is indisputably joyous. It's an experience rather recommended as much for what beautifully surrounds you as what's delicately served in front of you. — Audrey Al Dente
