Stepping into the hallowed patisserie of Cedric Grolet at The Berkeley is akin to entering a jeweler's shop filled with edible gems, each one a testament to Grolet's acclaimed mastery in pastry arts. My eyes feasted on the vivid tapestry of pastries that promise taste as extraordinary as their presentation. Admittedly, every bite at this famed locale comes with expectations nearly as high as the accompanying price tag. Despite this, those iconic London croissants managed to stand their ground, flaunting a tantalizing balance between flaky exterior and buttery tenderness within, leaving me grateful for such artisanal delights worthy of mid-morning indulgence.

Yet, in a paradox that laces itself around the menu, several of the initially captivating creations do fall victim to the hefty specter of their own reputation. While my indulgence in the pistachio pastry danced seamlessly upon the fine line of artistry and taste, other more elaborately styled tarts felt somewhat lacking, flirting distantly with mediocrity despite their couture exteriors. Service ranges from polished commendation to brusque efficiency; a dichotomy perhaps befitting its crowded popularity.
