I ventured into The Gun, a charming riverside pub nestled in Canary Wharf, and left with quite the story to tell. Picture this: a historical hideaway with significant ties to Lord Nelson himself, offering a picturesque view of the Thames that genuinely complements a plate piled high with what could arguably be some of London's tastiest Sunday roasts. The beef was cooked to perfection, and the roasted vegetables were the kind that could restore one's faith in the quaint British tradition of hearty meals. Let's not even get started on the triple-cooked chips – crunchier than a fresh baguette outside Paris. I have no qualms about recommending a detour from your conventional London itinerary for this cozy spot.

The service is practically faultless. Warm, welcoming, and impressively attentive staff give you all the more reason to loose track of time while savoring Gavi di Gavi that seems almost honorary when combined with crisp haddock. Yet, even diamonds have their imperfections. While dining inside felt like being wrapped up in a festive jumper beside a crackling fire, the Tiki Max bar outside could use a spritz of affectionately humorous care against cobwebs and a few weary-looking stools. Despite these minor hiccups, those searching for a robust culinary undertaking won't find what's lacking within The Gun’s walls and won’t mind spending that bit extra for quality comparable to dining at Buckingham Palace (or so one likes to think).
