The intoxicating aroma of sizzling steaks dances through the air as you take in the delightfully rustic decor, complete with chalkboard menus and exposed butcher blocks. You're greeted by the vibrant harmonies of Italian chatter between staff and diners, bringing an authentic charm that gets your gastronomic senses tingling in anticipation. And there it was, Catherine, hospitality personified, shepherding us seamlessly through the menu. Her knowledge of every aged cut and olive oil drizzle elevated our evening from pleasant supper to full-blown culinary escapade.

Macellaio is all about meat. Tender slabs of costata and fiorentina, skillfully cooked over joyful charcoals, with a side of rosemary's aromatic embrace—it's heaven for carnivores homologous to a religious experience. The taste lingers, piquant yet soft, an ode to meat at its prime. However, this is not a hierarchy where the steak reigns supreme, pushing out other dishes from the throne. For instance, the gnocchi? Pillowy morsels that float lightly, carried by pesto as freshly captured as a Ligurian dawn. With Giuseppe overseeing operations and daintily offering plates with details so meticulous you would swap places with your taste buds if you could, there was little more to crave: perhaps just less volume on the stereo playing a little too enthusiastic Dean Martin.
